Boston United are gearing up for another six-pointer at the foot of the National League North table this weekend. The Pilgrims head to the Impact Arena on Saturday in their final fixture before Christmas to face fellow strugglers Alfreton Town.

Fresh from their dramatic 3-2 victory over Southport on Saturday, in which Brad McGowan scored an 88th minute winner, Craig Elliott’s side will be chasing their first away success under their new boss’s guidance. Their only away league match on Elliott’s watch so far unfolded on November 18 when the Pilgrims were beaten 3-1 by Harrogate Town.

Elliott said: “I am expecting a similar game [to Southport], with two teams both in a position they do not want to be in so there will be a few nerves, maybe a lot of goals, but I do not look at other teams so much any more. It’s about us and what we can do. We were superb in the second half against Southport and if we can play like that, we will be fine.

“We are trying to find a level of consistency where we are hard to play against and go on a run. I would like to think we are improving week-on-week.”
