Giuiseppe Sole is to leave Woking after nine years at the club.
Whether it’s one of his many legendary free-kicks, fabulous long-range strikes, that header away at Luton, that record-breaking scoring run or scoring the winner away at Maidenhead United to clinch promotion back to the National League, supporters will all have their own special memories of Sole playing for Woking.
A product of the very successful Academy at Woking, run by Graham Baker, Sole made his first-team debut age 17 against Southport on Saturday 12th August 2006.
He went on to play for the England C team and in total made 352 appearances for Woking, scoring 111 goals.
Quite apart from his incredible goalscoring record, Sole will always be remembered for the courageous way he fought back from that career-threatening injury against Dartford when he was in his prime and for the way he’s always conducted himself both on and off the pitch.
As the song goes that’s sung after him by the adoring Kingfield faithful, “always believe in your Sole” and we always did, particularly when he was lining up a free-kick 25 yards or more out from goal.
