Barrow AFC are fortunate they are able to call upon Dan Jones, according to manager Ian Evatt, after the defender’s man-of-the-match display against Sutton last weekend, report The Mail.

Evatt has made it clear he sees Jones as a centre-back, rather than a left-back, and his faith that the 23-year-old can hack it in the middle of the defence was vindicated, as he stood firm in the face of heavy Sutton pressure.

With the Bluebirds, who looked nervy in the second half against the U’s, defending deeper and deeper, Jones frequently came to their rescue with last-ditch challenges and heroic blocks.

Evatt said: “Dan Jones is a fantastic footballer and we’re very fortunate to have him.

“He’s developing great and hopefully he can keep his head down and continue to do that with us.”
