Ian Evatt has targeted five more additions to his Barrow AFC squad to have them set for the National League season, report The Mail.
The Bluebirds boss wants to bring in another goalkeeper to follow his most recent recruit, Andy Firth, as Joel Dixon is sideline for another month following knee surgery.
Evatt is also looking for three midfielders and a centre-back to strengthen the core of his team, with less than two weeks to go until the start of the National League season.
Firth’s arrival – in the immediate aftermath of Steve Arnold moving to Shrewsbury and Grant Holt’s departure from the club finally being confirmed – brings the AFC squad to 18-strong. Evatt has signed all but a handful of those players – Dixon, Dan Jones, Jack Barthram and Nathan Waterston were with Barrow last season, and Astley Mulholland, Josh Granite and Jack Hindle signed before his arrival – and has thus been able to shape the squad how he sees fit.
There are still areas that need improvement, however, and the manager said: “We’re still a bit light in the middle of the pitch. We probably need three midfield players and possibly another centre-back. Other than that, I think we’re in good shape.”
On the goalkeeper situation, he added: “We need another one in, definitely. What we do with that, I’m not so sure yet – whether we loan someone or sign someone and then have three. It’s definitely something we are looking to do, bring another one in.”
