Stourbridge and Matlock Town came together to remember former Glassboys youth team player Ryan Passey on Sunday before meeting in the EVO-STIK League’s top flight.

Fans, players and officials staged an impeccably observed minute’s silence before the 1-1 draw at the War Memorial Athletic Ground for the 24-year-old who was stabbed to death outside a nightclub in Stourbridge last weekend.

More than a thousand supporters at the EVO-STIK League Premier Division opener saw the midfielder’s mourning parents lay a wreath in the centre circle before falling silent amid emotional scenes ahead of the 3pm kick off.

A popular member of the EVO-STIK League Premier club’s treble winning youth side who won the league title, MFYL League Cup and Worcestershire County Youth Cup in 2010-11 under former youth team boss Dave King, he also played for Team Dudley.

Three teenagers were arrested in connection with the killing this week as West Midlands Police continue their investigations.
