Torquay United head coach Gary Owers has completed his third signing in less than a week – former Arsenal, Dagenham & Redbridge and Oldham Athletic centre-forward Rhys Murphy on loan from Forest Green Rovers.

New Gulls boss Owers made FGR utility player Callum Evans his first addition on loan last week, followed by free agent winger Jennison Myrie-Williams, and now he has gone back to his old club to snap up 26-year-old striker Murphy in a three-month deal.

After a highly promising early career with the Gunners, the 6ft 1in tall striker played for Dagenham for two years (2013-2015), earning a £20,000 move to Oldham in the process.

Murphy, who has scored 44 senior goals, joined FGR in the summer of 2016 and had loan moves to York City and Crawley Town last season.
