Braintree Town have appointed former manager Hakan Hayrettin as caretaker manager for the immediate future, while they consider the numerous applications for the role going forward.
Hayrettin took over during the club’s relegation season in October 2016 and steered the club to a best ever Second Round proper appearance in the FA Cup with wins over both Bromley (4-2) and Eastbourne Borough (7-0) before bowing out of the competition at Millwall.
In the league, he initially turned the club’s fortunes around, including a memorable ‘odd goal in nine’ victory at Southport that lifted the club out of the bottom four, before financial restrictions in the last two months of the season coincided with a poor run that left the club just one win adrift of safety.
Chairman Lee Harding said: “We are grateful to Hakan for agreeing to help us in the short-term.”
Hayrettin said: “Really happy to be back. I’m looking forward to helping out and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
