Former Colchester United skipper Kemal Izzet has been appointed Brightlingsea Regent manager.
The 39-year-old replaces Tom Rothery, who resigned back in September. Izzet, who made 473 appearances for Colchester and played for the club in the Championship, has been part of John Coventry’s coaching staff at East Thurrock United, as well as previously leading Stanway Rovers in 2017.
Speaking to the club’s website, chairman Terry Doherty said of his appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Kem to the Regent. He’s a well qualified young coach who is ambitious and driven, which is a perfect fit for the Regent.
“He has experience of step three, having played at the level when at Needham Market. Therefore, he knows what it takes to perform at this level.
“Kem has good contacts in non-league and the pro game, which will help when it comes to recruitment. I’m excited for the future, looking forward to seeing Kem settle in at the Taydal Stadium and driving the team back up the table.”
