Kidderminster Harriers have announced that defender Jimmy O’Connor is to captain the team for the 2018/19 season.
The vastly-experienced former Walsall man has more than 500 senior league games under his belt, including 25 for Harriers last season. The 33-year-old signed for the club last summer after a stellar Football League career that saw him feature for the Sadlers as well as the likes of Bournemouth, Doncaster Rovers and Derby County.
He has commanded the respect of players and staff throughout Aggborough, and has been chosen by Neil MacFarlane to lead the troops during the forthcoming season.
Speaking about the news, he told the club’s YouTube channel: “It’s a big honour to be captain of any football club and one I was really grateful to receive from the gaffer.
“I think saying you’re a ‘leader’ and a ‘captain’, it’s a nice tag to have, but it is about setting standards on the pitch and throughout the club. I’ll embrace it myself but it is about other players stepping up and, hopefully, we can have a successful season because of it.
“It’s a really tight-knit group and we are trying to go places – I want to be part of that.”
