Steve Castle is hoping to get Shaun Batt fit enough to introduce into his first team at Royston Town in the autumn months.

The 32-year-old frontman made more than 150 Football League appearances for the likes of Peterborough, Millwall, Leyton Orient and Barnet, and saw out last season at East Thurrock United in National League South.

Batt has spent pre-season with Royston, turning out in a couple of friendlies and helping out in training, but manager Castle warned that it would be a while before he is ready for some proper action.

“Shaun has been getting some minutes with the reserves,” said Castle, who last season briefly had Batt’s former Leyton Orient strike partner Tommy Mooney playing up front for him.
