A one-time standout in the Championship, former Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Nottingham Forest forward Marcus Tudgay has signed for South Normanton Athletic of the Total Motion Midland Football League Premier Division.

Now 34 years old, Sussex-born Tudgay has spent the last three years at Coventry City, scoring 13 times for the Sky Blues but suffering relegation to League Two last season.

Also representing Barnsley and Charlton Athletic in loan stints during his 15-year career to date, Tudgay struck 14 goals for Wednesday in his best scoring campaign, in 2008/09, also winning the PFA Fans’ Championship Player of the Year.

Throughout his career he has been known for his exceptional heading ability as well as his versatility, and he goes straight into the Shiners squad for tonight’s home league game with fellow strugglers Rocester, having recently represented Sutton Coldfield Town.
