In the wake of another setback, manager Alan Lewer says his Southport players have put themselves forward for extra training as they look to address the problems of recent weeks.

Lewer watched his team succumb to a fourth straight defeat, a run in which they have conceded 16 goals, as they exited the Emirates FA Cup at the second round qualifying stage against Bradford Park Avenue.

After a busy schedule at the start of the season, the Sandgrounders have a full week to prepare for Saturday’s visit to Nuneaton Town and Lewer says they will be doing their best to put things right.

“There has been a show of hands in the dressing room to come and put it right and I’m pleased about that,” Lewer said.

“We’re coming in on Monday to assess what we’re doing wrong. We need to get back to basics and by coming in during the day, and hopefully getting in two or three sessions during the week, it will help us.

“We’re pleased to have a break and the chance to work on things, which we’ve not really been able to do so far.”
