Craig Harrison admitted his side paid for not doing their jobs properly as Macclesfield Town scored twice to pinch a win at Victoria Park on Saturday.

The Pools boss was pleased with the majority of his side’s display against The Silkmen but accepted they were punished for not taking their chances at one end and not defending well enough at the other.

“All defeats are difficult to take but the manner of today is even harder,” Harrison told Pools PlayerHD.

“We played well for 85 minutes and then to go from that to giving away two poor goals through people just not doing their standard jobs to see the game out is frustrating.

“For the first twenty minutes or so of the second half we were on the front foot and really got at them, we could really have been two or three goals up after that.

“We should have been more ruthless at the other end and scored two or three more but you just have to do your jobs – we didn’t need a moment of magic or anything, we just needed people to do their bog-standard jobs and it didn’t happen.”
