FC United of Manchester have taken a punt on signing former Workington AFC striker Gareth Arnison.

Workington recently announced that 30-year-old Arnison would not feature in their first-team plans for the foreseeable future.

It was a difficult, delicate decision to make but necessary in view of the uncertainty regarding Arnison’s health issues – a type of Crohn`s desease.

Through no fault of his own, the player had been unable to train for much of pre-season, didn’t featured in any of the pre-season games and could give no guarantees when his fitness will attain a level to enable him to resume playing.

In three separate spells at the club, Arnison scored 127 goals in 265 (plus 81 as substitute) appearances.

In between stints with the Reds, Arnison turned out for Kendal Town and Barrow AFC.
