The 2016/17 National League is coming to a close as Lincoln City have already been crowned the champions and are set for a return to the Football League next season.
There is still plenty up for grabs in the playoffs though, as Tranmere, Forest Green, Dagenham and Dover all in contention for promotion via Wembley.
Here is a look back at the five players who have really stood out this season in the National League.
Andy Cook (Tranmere)
Tranmere were unlucky to miss out on the automatic spot this season. They produced a late surging run to put pressure on Lincoln but have just fallen short. Still, they are the 6/4 favourites to win the playoffs out of all the clubs remaining in contention for a place at Wembley. This way, you can make a more informed decision on who to bet with. A player who has had an excellent season and will be key to Tranmere’s play-off campaign is Andy Cook. After signing from Barrow last summer, the former England C man has scored 19 goals this campaign and has been integral to Micky Mellon’s side’s attack.
Christian Doidge (Forest Green)

Welshman Christian Doidge signed a two-year deal with Forest Green back last June and that is already looking like an excellent bit of business for the National League club. The former Dagenham striker has found the back of the net on 25 occasions this season. He finished the campaign as the second highest scorer in the competition. Forest Green have scored more goals than any other club in the National League this season and that is largely due to Doidge’s contribution.
Ricky Miller (Dover)
Ricky Miller was voted the 2016/17 National League Player of the Season and the award could not have gone to any other player as Miller has scored 37 goals so far. The Dover man has been linked with a number of league clubs who are rumoured to be set to bid for the striker this summer when the transfer window reopens, including Nottingham Forest.
Sean Raggett (Lincoln)
Despite being only 23 years old, Sean Raggett already has over 140 National League appearances under his belt as he made his debut for Dover at just the age of 16. Raggett has excelled at the back for the champions Lincoln this season. West Brom are thought to be set to bid £100,000 for the defender who scored the winning goal in the Imps’ famous victory over Burnley in the last 16 of the FA Cup this season.
Luke Waterfall (Lincoln)
Lincoln captain Luke Waterfall has been a terrific leader for the Imps in their title-winning campaign. The former Wrexham man has played in the heart of Lincoln’s defence which has only conceded 39 goals all season. His experience in a young side would have helped the champions get over the line and secure promotion into League Two.
The National League play-offs begin on May 3 when the fifth-ranked team plays the first leg of their semi-final tie with the second placed team. The final takes place at Wembley on May 14.
