Solihull Moors manager Tim Flowers was over the moon with his team as they beat early pace-setters Wrexham 1-0 yesterday in the Vanarama National League.

Alex Gudger netted an 82nd-minute winner, which meant a first loss for Sam Ricketts’ Wrexham, who have now been replaced at the top by FC Halifax Town. Moors have won four of their first seven games and sit 7th, but just two points off the summit.

Flowers said to the club’s website: “The boys are proper lads – they give you everything they’ve got.

“When the board went up with eight minutes on it, I nearly fell over. I just couldn’t catch my breath.

“I just don’t know where you get eight from, I really don’t. It is what it is.

“These lads know the division, they’re pros that have been around the game and understand what it’s about in this league.

“I trust in them to see it through, I trust the leaders in the group of which we’ve got many and at times I can stand there safe in the knowledge that they’ll try and steer the ship as best they can.”
