Macclesfield Town midfielder Richie Wellens says that the Silkmen must focus on their football as they prepare to face Tranmere for the second time in seven days.

John Askey’s men travelled to Prenton Park on Boxing Day but were left ruing their missed chances as Jeff Hughes scored the only goal of the game on 83 minutes for the hosts.

Wellens says if Macc can focus on their football they will be able to give Tranmere another good game at the Moss.

He said: “Tranmere shouldn’t be a non-league side, they’re a big enough club to be in the Football League. I’ve worked for their manager before and I know a couple of their players as well.

“They’re doing well, they’re a team with a big budget in this league and they should be up near the top. It’s going to be a tough game, but as long as we’re on it and we pass the ball the way we can do, and from what I’ve seen we’re probably a better footballing team than they are, it’s just about getting our football out.”
