Long Eaton United have today confirmed the appointment of Steve Burr as assistant manager, working alongside recently-appointed manager Rudy Funk.
Burr, who has managed nine clubs across 18 years, also served as assistant manager to Paul Fairclough with the England C team.
Blues managing director Nick Dargan said: “We are all delighted with Steve’s appointment. He has a reputation for building attractive, successful teams and his work at Stafford Rangers, Chester FC, Kidderminster Harriers and the England C team make him the ideal person to work alongside Rudy.”
He added: “We are confident that, with his pedigree, players will be attracted to the club, and he will bring the best out of our existing senior players and the talented group of younger players coming through the ranks.”
Burr said: “After discussions with Rudy I am delighted to take up the role of assistant manager for the coming season. After enjoying my time as a manager, I announced that my managerial days were very much over.
“Since then I have received numerous offers to remain in the game in different capacities. After meeting with chairman Jim Fairley and the Long Eaton United board and having held discussions with academy head Paul Holland, I felt the opportunity to work and help this very ambitious club was too good to turn down. It’s a very exciting project.
“I’ve known Rudy for a long time and can’t wait to work alongside him. The club is in fantastic shape with a tremendous infrastructure and hopefully with my experience I can help the club progress to the next level.”
