Skelmersdale United were this week boosted by the return of two former club players of the year as midfield dynamo Paul Woolcott and right-sided player Valtar Fernandes rejoined the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club.
Woolcott has been involved in some of Skelmersdale’s best moments in recent years and was a lynchpin of the Division One North championship side of 2012/13.
He later moved on to gain an Evo-Stik League Premier Division winners medal with Chorley.
“Woolly” had a spell back with the club last season playing a starring role in the team that defeated Salford City among other achievements, but announced in April that he was to retire from the game as he was becoming more involved in his families car repair business.
However, he has found he was missing football and returned to train with Skem late in August, culminating in his signing on and making himself available for selection again.
Portuguese right-sided player Valtar Fernandes will be in his third season with Skelmersdale, he was a popular choice by the supporters as player of the year in 2014/15 and left last season for a spell with Colwyn Bay before returning later in the season.
The former Sporting Lisbon player will add pace and creativity especially down the right-wing, he can play at either full-back or as a winger.
Both players are available and we understand are in the squad that manager Tommy Lawson takes down to Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday, before Skelmersdale entertain Workington at Skem’s Uretek Stadium on Tuesday 27th September
