A fundraising evening is to be held in March in memory of a former Northern League footballer who died recently.
David “Kid” Curry recently passed away following a heart attack at the age of 58. He captained Spennymoor United FC in the 70s and 80s and also had a brief spell at Bishop Auckland. He represented the Northern League Select XI on numerous occasions and toured with Middlesex Wanderers.
He was also a keen cricketer and coached young players at both Spennymoor and Kirk Merrington Juniors FC as well as local cricket clubs.
His family is organising a fundraising evening at Tudhoe Cricket Club to raise money for a defibrillator for the club. The event is on Saturday, March 4, starting at 7.30pm. There will be a second event at the Ship Inn pub Middlestone Moor on Friday, April 7 at 7.30pm.
The events will be ticket only and details will be released in due course.
His son, David Curry Jnr said:
“We would be delighted if anyone involved with the Northern League could donate any items which could be auctioned at the event or be a prize for a raffle.
“The Northern League was a big part of his life and any help would be greatly appreciated so some good can come from such a horrible situation.”
Any items should be sent to 23 Oval Park, Tudhoe Village, Spennymoor, County Durham, DL16 6LN by Monday, January 23. David will also collect items if they can’t be sent. He can be contacted on 07983 520116.
