David Morgan has left Nuneaton Town to join AFC Fylde for an undisclosed fee.

The former Northern Ireland Under-21 International joined the club in the summer of 2015 and has gone on to give us good service since then.Morgan2b

“Part of me is disappointed that we have lost a key player and the other part is pleased that we have been able to play a big part in his development to get this move,” admitted manager, Tommy Wright. “For the past three weeks or so we have tried to get him to commit to the football club for another two years.

Unfortunately it soon became apparent that this wasn’t about money, it was about the player wanting to go and play as high as possible.

“At that point the club simply has to get the best deal possible as he would be out of contract in three months, and I feel that we have achieved that.

“We wish Morgs all the best in his future career; his professionalism and application has been second-to-none. I’ve loved every minute of working with him and will definitely keep in touch.”

Speaking to the Coasters website Chairman David Haythornthwaite said: “We weren’t really looking to sign anyone else permanently at this stage of the season as the manager was happy with the squad.

“However, Morgan was someone the manager had on his list for next season so we had to move fast. We became aware that several other clubs were interested in him but more importantly because of his situation at Nuneaton the club wanted to do a deal now and not wait until the end of the season.

“It helped that the player wanted to come and had a good agent which always makes things easier. Things then moved very quickly from the first indications on Monday so we are happy to get it done.”

Manager Dave Challinor added: “David has been on our radar for some time and the opportunity arose to get him in sooner than anticipated which we were more than happy to do. It also means one of our targets for next season is already sorted.

“He’s another technically good player who will get on the ball and play forward. He is someone who we believe can play not only in the next division above but higher still.

“He will train over the next couple of days and he will be in contention straight away. I’m confident that he will fit in here really well.”
