Gainsborough Trinity have confirmed the appointment of former Port Vale manager Lee Sinnott.

The 52-year-old, who has also managed Farsley Celtic, Bradford Park Avenue and Altrincham, has been announced as the successor to Dave Frecklington, who left the club last week. Sinnott left Altrincham in March 2016 and he takes over a Trinity side that has slipped into the relegation places in the Vanarama National League North, though the league remains so congested that they are only nine points behind Stockport County in 10th.

As a player, Sinnott had a near-20-year career and represented the likes of Crystal Palace, Bradford City and Huddersfield Town. The club tweeted this quote from him on his arrival at The Northolme:

“Gainsborough has always had a great deal of potential when I have visited with other clubs, but the hard work starts now and I can’t wait to turn that potential into reality.”
