Gainsborough Trinity’s Rod Orlando Young has made a strong impression during his time with the club.

The winger, who has been deployed in various other positions so far this season, features in an in-depth conversation on this site, within which he explained that his memorable name is actually the cause of some ‘conflict’ in the family.

He said: “Orlando’s my middle name, Young’s my last name.

“It’s confusing, because my dad wanted it to be double-barrelled, and my mum didn’t! So it was a bit of a conflict.

“I’ve always been told different things, so, just have them both!”

Asked if the correct way to write it is Rod Orlando Young, rather than the hyphenated Rod Orlando-Young, he confirmed:

“Not double-barrelled, yeah.”
