Gainsborough Trinity boss Lee Sinnott has moved to bolster his attacking options with the acquisition of pacey left winger Nicky Walker from Shaw Lane AFC.
Walker, who started his career at Rotherham United, spent time out on loan at Barrow in the National League, Wycombe Wanderers and Grimsby Town, prior to signing for league rivals Boston United on a free transfer. A rapid winger with an eye for goal, he has netted five times in the National league whilst with the Pilgrims and will be looking to add to that tally in Gainsborough Blue.
Following a stint at Buxton, where he scored six times in a short spell, Walker arrived at Shaw Lane for the 2017/18 season. Netting nine times this campaign, despite limited opportunities, it is thought Walker’s injection of pace will boost Trinity’s attacking fortunes, giving a fresh outlet for the Blues’ attacks.
Of the capture Trinity’s new assistant manager John Reed, who has worked with Walker this season, was keen to say, “Nicky has pace to burn, he is quick, direct, scores and creates goals. He will give us something we haven’t currently got in the side and will change games for us.
“He is the type of player that will get people excited. He’s your typical type of winger really, but I believe he can go higher.
“I think Gainsborough will be a great platform for Nicky to showcase his talent.”
