Matt Gardiner was pleased to see the attitude of the Kidderminster Harriers players in good order as they were emphatic 8-0 winners at Stourport Swifts.

The squad have had many and varied tasks to deal with so far this pre-season.

On Tuesday and Wednesday of the week just ending there were defeats against Championship opposition in Derby County and Aston Villa.

On Saturday came the demolition of the Swifts in which Joe Ironside bagged four goals.

Speaking after the game, Gardiner admitted it was pleasing to see those goals going in.

But he was just as impressed with the other aspects of the team’s performance as they showed the character to dominate from start to finish.

“It’s good to always get the forwards on the score sheet and there were some other contributions as well.

“With all of the games we look at it from the conditioning point of view, that’s the main reason for pre-season.

“But also we look at what we try to get from games from a tactical and technical point of view; we look at the players who’re signed on and the players who are trying to earn a contract.

“Today was good for differing reasons, but Tuesday and Wednesday were good for different reasons as well.

“You learn a lot about people against tough opposition, but equally today the attitude today had to be right as well, and it was.

“The lads have done well.”
