Gateshead’s long-term General Manager and Head of Football Operations Mike Coulson has resigned from his position at the football club with immediate effect.
Coulson’s resignation comes two weeks after being appointed as the club’s head of football operations. He leaves an almost 30-year legacy at Gateshead, first getting involved with the supporter’s club in the early 90s before being appointed as the club’s assistant secretary in 1999.
He has had many different key roles at the Heed such as club secretary, chairman and a brief spell as owner in the early 21st Century. Following his departure from the club he served impeccably over the years, he said: “It’s with a heavy heart that I felt it necessary to resign from my position at the football club.
“I’ve been involved with Gateshead for 20 years and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of this great club. I’d like to thank everyone who made my time at Gateshead such a positive and fulfilling experience and wish the very best of luck to Ben, Busted, Annie, Dom and the players.”
Gateshead owner and Chairman Ranjan Varghese thanked Mike for his services.
He said: “Mike is a very dedicated and polished gentleman whose knowledge and experience was of great benefit to Gateshead Football Club over the years.
“He maintained a good relationship with parties close to the club and is very well respected by ourselves and the wider Gateshead family.”
Gateshead manager Ben Clark was also keen to show his gratitude towards Mike.
“On a personal note, I’d like to thank Mike for everything he’s done for the football club,” Clark said.
“He’s done a lot for me over the past eight years and he’s been a great colleague and friend who I wish all the best for the future. At least he might smile now!”
Coulson’s administrative duties will now be taken up by Gateshead commercial manager Alisha Henry.
