Vanarama National League club Gateshead have completed the signing of their third signing of the summer with the addition of Macclesfield Town defender Neill Byrne.
The former Barrow and Telford United defender follows Wrexham midfielders Russell Penn and Kieran Green in joining the Tynesiders.
Byrne made thirty four appearances for Macclesfield Town last season, the last of those came at Wembley in the Buildbase FA Trophy Final defeat against York City.
Byrne played sixty seven minutes in the 3-2 defeat before being replaced by John McCombe at the heart of the Silkmen defence.
His move to the International Stadium will be a welcome addition for Neil Aspin after losing defenders Liam Hogan and George Smith to Salford City and Northampton Town respectively.
Twenty four year old Byrne began his career in the academy at Nottingham Forest, before spending time with the likes of Rochdale and Southport.
Arguably the most successful spell of his career came with Telford United, when he was part of Liam Watson’s Bucks squad that won with National League North title in 2014, their first title win in sixty two years.
