Gateshead have told Grimsby Town that midfielder Sam Jones is not for sale.
The Mariners have been linked with a move for the former Leeds United academy player, who has ten goals to his name in his maiden season with the North East club.
Jones, who joined the Heed from Alfreton Town in the summer, has quickly become a fans favourite after scoring ten times in twenty starts for his new club.
That carries on his good performance with Alfreton last season, scoring nineteen goals.
The former Leeds United academy player agreed a move to the International Stadium in June, signing a two year deal as Neil Aspin continued his overhaul of the Gateshead squad.
In an interview with Non-League Daily before Christmas, Jones spoke of his admiration for Aspin and the work he is doing with the Heed.
In the interview he said “Even when I wasn’t playing he said ‘look, this is just a transition – you’ve come from part time to full time just trust me keep working hard in training – i know its going to come.”
“Now he’s seeing the fruit of what he believed in me and i’m seeing the fruit of that as well.
“It’s a good relationship, I feel he can get the best out of me.”
Mariners boss Marcus Bignot has also been linked with moves for Jamey Osborne and Akwasi Asante, both players he worked with in his time in charge of former club Solihull Moors.
