Vanarama National League South club Basingstoke Town have sacked manager Michael Gilkes
The announcement was made on Monday lunchtime
The move came after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Whitehawk, a result that left them stranded at the bottom of the National League table, eleven points from safety.
A statement on the club website confirmed their decision
It read “The club have today decided to release Michael Gilkes from his role as First Team Manager with immediate effect.
The club would like to place on record its thanks for Michael’s efforts since taking the position.
The club will provide further updates on Tuesday”
Next up for Town is a home fixture against Oxford City on Saturday afternoon
