Gloucester City manager James Rowe has said the decision to release ‘club legend’ Sam Avery needed to be ‘emotionless’.
Avery was released by the club on Sunday, January 19, after making more than 230 appearances for the club.
The defender came through the youth academy at the club, before developing his game with the likes of Chipping Norton Town and Bishop’s Cleeve.
Rowe said: “I need to make sure the decisions are emotionless and right for the club.
“He will remain a legend and he will be welcome back anytime but we are moving into a direction where decisions need to be taken to adapt to full-time football.”
