Gloucester City chairman Rod Jenner has provided an update on the club’s search for a new manager.
Boss Marc Richards left for Hereford FC this week, and Jenner has released a statement on the club website on the hunt for his replacement:
As I said when we announced Marc’s departure, we’d known about his intention to speak to Hereford and it was at that point, myself and the Management Board put in place some contingency plans in order to ensure that the situation was proactively managed in case Marc did decide to leave. Although sad to see Marc, Will and Luke go, what this presents, is an opportunity.
Last year, when Marc was appointed, the Club required the stability of familiar faces in charge, whilst we sorted the off the field issues which had caused his predecessor to walk away. Now the Club is in a far more stable position, with a better structure and with real tangible progress being made on the ground development. We are due to release the amended plans tomorrow, which will detail a scheme far more achievable within the timeframes.
This time round with Tom Webb and Mike Green stepping into the roles in the interim, we’ve got a chance to take a more considered approach and get the correct appointment in place to work alongside our existing coaching team and take the Club into the next phase of its existence. We very much see our next appointment as the person who will not only bring the Club home but help Tom and Mike into the next phases of their career as future managers of Gloucester City Football Club.
We met last night with Tom and Mike and explained our thoughts and ideas for what we are looking for in a new manager. I’m happy to say that we are all in agreement about what the Club and our squad requires and we see their input as integral to the interview process.
We’ve already been inundated with applications with a vast range of experience at this level and above. We have also been in preliminary contact with a number of candidates about the position as per our aforementioned contingency plans. That process continues today with our new Director Alex Petheram meeting with a potential candidate in between his day to day business meetings.
We are however keen to explore as many options as possible in order to find the right fit for the Club.
