Gosport Borough are homing in on a successor to Alex Pike. The struggling Evo-Stik League South outfit closed applications for the vacant manager’s post at 5pm on Sunday.

With caretaker Danny Thompson at the helm, Borough crashed to their eighth straight league defeat at Stratford Town yesterday.

The damage was done inside the opening 11 minutes as Liam Francis and Will Grocott fired the hosts to victory.

It leaves Borough rooted to the foot of the table, still without a league point, ahead of Tuesday’s (7.45pm) basement battle at Kings Langley.
