Alex Pike, manager of Vanarama National League South club Gosport Borough, has captured the signature of much-sought after hitman Warren Bentley, who last season was among the most prolific goalscorers in the country.
Bentley joins from Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West side Winchester City, for whom he notches an incredible 44 league goals.
He joins Gosport on a two-year contract and fulfil a personal ambition to play at a higher level.
Bentley will now pit his wits against some tough and uncompromising defences in the National South in 2016/17, but for a player who has scored more goals than Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy combined, it will be a challenge to be relished.
Pike said, “He is still only 25 years old and is a terrific signing for us.
“I know for a fact that he was watched by Luton Town, Dagenham & Redbridge and Notts County last season.
“His arrival is another reason why I am already excited about next season.”
It was Pike’s second attempt to sign the prolific former Alresford Town striker, who totalled 56 goals last term, after an approach in January failed.
