Gosport Borough have signed centre-back Matthew Weaire on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Weaire, 17, joins Boro on a month’s loan from the Seagulls to provide cover for the loss of three central defender in what player/manager Craig McAllister has described as the ‘curse of the number five shirt.’
McAllister said: “We are not sure what the problem is with Lucas who has seen a specialist who said he needs to wait a few weeks but he’s still getting pain with it so we are hoping a scan will clarify the problem. It has been a bit of nightmare and very frustrating.
“We talk about leaking goals and being better defensively but we’ve not had the same back four playing together for three games. I needed to sign another body because we are playing people out of position – Tony Lee when he’s a striker not a defender and Ryan Case who is a full back not a centre half.”
