Andy Gowens has resigned as manager of Whitley Bay.

Gowens returned to the club in February, having made close to 350 appearances as a player in the 80s and 90s, as well as leading the club to their first FA Vase triumph, in 2002.

In a statement released by the club, chairman Paul McIlduff said “I would like to thank Andy for all his hard work and efforts for the club since returning to Hillheads in February and would like to offer him our best wishes for the future.”

The club say a further statement will follow in the coming days.
