Torquay United footballer Josh Gowling has accused the club of threatening to fine him if he attends a funeral.
The 34-year-old revealed via Twitter that the father of his best friend had recently passed away. Gowling said he was upset by the news, but also told of his upset at the threat made by the football club.
The defender has been with Torquay since signing from Grimsby Town in June 2017.
He made 25 appearances for the club last season as they were unable to stop relegation to the National League South.
Gowling’s season was disrupted by injury and since relegation was confirmed manager Gary Owers opted to put the defender on the transfer list.
