Grantham Town have given an update on the current state of play with the club, announcing that they are in ‘advanced discussions and negotiations with three new potential investors.’
In a statement from interim chair Sophie Cope, the BetVictor Northern Premier Division club state that if they can reach a deal, ‘it will be the biggest shake-up off the field for a number of years and will be the beginning of a new era for our football club.’
The statement begins:
There has been a lot of negativity at the club over the past 4 to 6 weeks and it’s taken its toll on a lot of people. Tough decisions have been made on a weekly basis and they’ve not been taken lightly, but always with the best interests of the club at their core.
We are constantly assessing the situation and are aware of all the statistics but we have to face facts and be realistic in our decision making. The current reality is the football club has been operating in this league for the past three / four years on one of the lowest budgets in the league and football has moved on around us. We’ve been punching above our weight for so long but now we find ourselves struggling to remain competitive. It is also worth remembering that there are several teams in our league who have aspirations to play in the Football League, and are resourcing themselves to achieve those aims as quickly as possible.
