Grays Athletic fans have started voting for their first permanent board of directors since the Ryman League club became supporter owned.
A ballot to vote in seven directors from ten candidates to take over the permanent running of the Blues got underway this week as officials were given a guided tour of the new stadium they are sharing with Aveley next season by Millers secretary and Ryman League vice-chairman Craig Johnson.
The clubs agreed a two year groundshare deal in April after sharing Aveley’s former home at Mill Field and Johnson is pictured, right, showing the Blues party around the Parkside Stadium as fans start preparing for their first full season in charge and life in Ryman North following relegation in April.
The visit was organised as the Essex club’s 195 adult shareholders were casting their votes for the five interim directors – Glyn Jarvis, Steve Skinner, Glyn Balmer and Janet and Tony Packer – who’ve been running the club since Andy Swallow transferred ownership to fans last year and five other candidates who’ve come forward to stand.
The results of the ballot will be announced on 5 June before a shareholders meeting the following day when supporters will be able to quiz their newly elected board on their plans for the future including proposals to return home to a new community sports facility in Grays.
A club spokesman said “It was great to take a look around the new Parkside stadium. The club would like to thank Craig Johnson for the opportunity and we would once again like to express our sincere thanks to Craig and the board of directors at Aveley FC for agreeing the groundshare for the next two seasons.
“It is going to be great for both supporters and players to enjoy these brand new facilities and hope that our supporters will come along and support the Blues at Parkside. Following the recent announcement regarding the planned Orsett Heath Academy it is hoped that we will be in our own new facilities back in Grays within a few years but in the mean time we are extremely grateful to everyone at Aveley for their continued support of the club.”
