Soham Town Rangers have appointed Robbie Mason as their new first team player/manager.

Although the club received many applications for the post, it was felt that Robbie would provide the continuity at this difficult time as he obviously knows the strengths of the current squad.

The 30 year striker, who has been in interim charge of the side alongside Will Lawton in recent weeks, has agreed to take over from previous joint managers Robbie Nightingale and David Theobald after they left to become the new management team at Southern League Premier Division Cambridge City at the start of December.

Mason, who returned to Soham for his third spell with the Greens at the beginning of the season from Royston Town, will be assisted by Lloyd Groves, who arrived at the club over the summer from Godmanchester Rovers, with one of their first priorities being to strengthen the squad following the recent departure of six players to Cambridge City.

Robbie commented after his appointment “I would like to thank the club for giving us the opportunity. I couldn’t think of a better place to start my managerial career.

I would also like to thank the players for being so supportive.”
