Local striker Jamie Chamberlain has joined Torquay United on non-contract forms.
Chamberlain, who plays for Upton Athletic in the South Devon League, joined then Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division side Bideford in October 2015 on dual registration terms.
During pre-season, Chamberlain netted several goals for Torquay in friendlies, persuading player-manager Kevin Nicholson that he may be worth giving an opportunity to.
Chamberlain, 26, is delighted that he has the opportunity to push forward with his footballing career at Plainmoor.
“I’ve bided my time and done what the coaching staff have asked of me. I’m really happy,” he said. “I played for Bideford for the majority of last season. Then I agreed with the Gaffer that I would choose Torquay as priority for pre-season. Primarily I have stayed with Torquay so I could get this opportunity.
“I’m just going to go for it and keep doing what I have been doing. I’ve obviously been doing something right. I’ve been scoring goals in pre-season, now I just need to develop that one stage further now.”
Nicholson added: “Jamie is now available to us and he’ll travel up to North Ferriby. We wanted to have an option with him. We’ll see whether he makes the sixteen or not, but he deserves his chance. He’s the type of raw player that can always pop up with a goal”.
