Ade Azeez’s second spell at Torquay United started with an important winning goal on Saturday when the Gulls beat FC Halifax Town 1-0 in their first game in three weeks.
Azeez last played for the Gulls in the 2013 season when he was a 19-year-old on loan from Charlton Athletic. Now 26, the striker’s quick-reaction header in the 68th minute – after an Asa Hall header was parried by the goalkeeper – was enough to give United a lead they were resolute in defending late on.
Azeez said: “For any striker you want to get off the mark early, so I am happy about that – but I am more happy that we got the three points.
“We still have something to fight for – I think we are six points off the play-offs now. The goal is the play-offs so I am happy about that.”
