Torquay United have confirmed that Plainmoor has been picked to host an under-18s Schoolboy international fixture between England and Northern Ireland.
The fixture will take place on Friday, March 24th and kick-off at 7pm. It will feature the best players from both countries battling it out at Plainmoor.
The England under-18 Schoolboys play their first home fixture as defending champions of the Inspiresport Centenary shield, the primary home nations’ international cup for their age group,
“To have an international fixture at Plainmoor is great for Torquay United,” said Torquay United general manager Geoff Harrop.
“We’ve had a few players from Northern Ireland in our former youth setup, and we have a great relationship with the staff from the Irish Football Association. Former apprentices Levi Ives and Josh Lynch came from Plunketts Academy in Northern Ireland and they did a fantastic job here.
“The facilities here will be great for the boys so let’s get everyone up to Plainmoor to support the game.”
These International squads are made up, simply, of the best Schools’ Football players in England. Players must already represent their County and be nominated by their local County Schools’ FA based on their skills and talent. All players then face the trials process in order to make it through to the England squad. It is an honour for these pupils to represent their Country at this level and furthermore, a privilege for the England Schools’ FA to reward, for choosing to remain in mainstream education whilst playing football as opposed to opting to join an academy.
The ESFA’s values are firmly rooted in an educational approach to football and this is a great way to celebrate those players that have made the decision to ensure they have a solid foundation of qualifications to support them, wherever their football career may take them.
Tickets are priced at £6 (Adults) £3 (U18s/Students) and there is a group discount offer for one adult and up to ten children for just £30. You can buy tickets from Torquay United via reception or online.
