Torquay United are on the road again this weekend as we make the long trip up to the north east to take on Gateshead.

Our hosts have seen their play-off hopes start to fade in recent weeks, and sit in ninth place in the table, five points adrift of the play-off places.

They have lost eight of their 20 home League games so far and will be looking to complete the double over United having won 2-0 at The Launa Windows Stadium in 1024px-Torquay United FC.svg1 January.

Former Gull, Ryan Bowman, was amongst the scorers that day and goes into the game with 15 goals to his name this term.

United will be looking to bounce back from our Easter Weekend defeats at the hands of Dover Athletic and Eastleigh and start another unbeaten run.

Starting his first game for the club in the last game was emerging midfielder, Sam Chaney, who will be hoping to keep his place.

“The boys really helped me and I’d like to think that I gave a good account of myself,” said the 20 year-old youth team product. “It’s just disappointing that we didn’t get anything out of the game to show for our efforts.

“I was told to go out there and enjoy it and try to get on the ball, move it and create chances, which I feel that I did.

“I’m pleased with my fitness levels and feel really sharp. Now that I have got my first start, it’s made me even more determined to get more.

“As a group we have to stick together; we all want the same thing – to keep this club in The National League – and to achieve that everyone has to work hard and pull in the same direction, which is certainly the case.”
