Head coach Gary Owers is poised to build Torquay United’s midfield next season around the experienced Asa Hall.

Former Luton Town, Oxford United, Cheltenham Town and Barrow player Hall, 31, is believed to have agreed a move to Plainmoor ahead of a planned medical examination this week. He is not the only player on the verge of joining the Gulls, for they are close to signing a winger and they are also pursuing a centre-back.

Hall, born in the Black Country, has already enjoyed a solid career of more than 380 senior games.

A former England under-19 and under-20 international, Hall graduated from Birmingham City’s youth scheme before two-year spells with Luton, Oxford and Shrewsbury, followed bya three-season stint with Cheltenham. He has played against Torquay several times during that career.
