Eastleigh’s Jai Reason says his goal in the National League club’s FA Cup upset win over Swindon made up for a difficult couple of months.
Reason netted The Spitfires’ opening goal in a 3-1 first-round replay victory at the County Ground.
“I’ve had to get my head down and work hard that little bit harder of late,” the 26-year-old told BBC Radio Solent.
“I got my chance again tonight and took it with both hands and that just shows how football can change overnight.”
The midfielder was left out of the Eastleigh side for the first game in the tie and Saturday’s league match against York City.
But, recalled for the replay, he chose the perfect time to net his first goal of the season and help Eastleigh into the FA Cup second round for the third successive season.
“This win is up there with beating Crewe in the first round last year,” the former Cambridge United and Braintree player added.
“But, to come to a League One club and score three goals just sneaks it for me. I don’t doubt our boys in the dressing room because of the quality we’ve got.
“Hopefully we can take this cup form into the league and start climbing the table.”
