Harrogate Town midfielder LLoyd Kerry is set to undergo an operation, after sustaining a severe knee injury during our fixture against Chorley this weekend

Following initial treatment at The CNG Stadium on Saturday, the club moved quickly to ensure Lloyd received a scan at his local hospital earlier today (Monday).

Sadly, the scan has revealed Kerry has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). In addition, he has experienced a partial rupture of his medial collateral ligament (MCL) and a partial rupture of his lateral collateral ligament (LCL).

Kerry will now require surgery on the knee and then face a lengthy rehabilitation programme in his return to fitness.

“It’s incredibly disappointing that Lloyd has suffered an injury like this.” said Manager Simon Weaver.

This knee injury, which brings Kerry’s campaign to an impromptu end is the second major lay-off the midfielder has experienced this season, following the devastating facial injury which saw him sidelined for three months back in August.

“He’s had incredibly bad luck this year, and your heart goes out to the player and his family” Weaver continued.

“Seeing Lloyd leave the field on a stretcher on Saturday really knocked the stuffing out of me and everyone else involved at the club”

“As always, it’s important to do what is right for the player in these instances, and rather than speculate on the severity of his injury, we’ve been able to get him scanned at the earliest possible opportunity.

The news which came through this afternoon has confirmed our fears, but I am grateful that we have been able to move this quickly to start Lloyd’s rehabilitation process”

Today’s announcement is the latest blow in a fortnight of bad news for Weaver, who has also lost Louie Swain and Andi Thanoj to serious knee injuries in March.

“We’re seriously depleted at the moment, but our first concern is always the well-being of our players.

“As things stand Andi doesn’t require surgery but again, we’ve got him seeing the specialist to make sure he’s receiving the right course of treatment. Louie, on the other hand had his scan and once it revealed he needed an operation, this was arranged within a matter of days”

When you see lads like Louie, Andi and Lloyd who have been such important players for us this year, out for lengthy spells it is just incredibly deflating”

The club estimates that Kerry will be out for approximately 9 months, returning at a similar time to Louie Swain who undergoes his surgery this week.
