Dave Challinor has moved to strengthen his Hartlepool United attacking options with the signing of Republic of Ireland Under-21 frontman Aidan Keena on a permanent deal from Hearts.
The 20-year-old forward came through the ranks at St Patrick’s Athletic in his native Ireland before earning a move to Hearts in the summer of 2017. He has excelled in the Under-20s side and gained senior experience with a loan move to Queen’s Park at the beginning of 2018, scoring eight goals in 16 appearances for The Spiders.
After making his senior debut for Hearts, he was allowed out on loan to Dunfermline and prospered once more, as he hit the net five times in 12 games.
He scored his first senior goal for Hearts in the Scottish FA Cup last February but has been unable to pin down a regular starting spot for the Scottish Premiership outfit this season.
