Director of Football Craig Hignett believes Hartlepool United have the talent in their ranks to thrive in the National League.

But he thinks one or two need guidance from more experienced characters, which he is trying to add to Matthew Bates’ Pools squad.

“We have some really good players here but they are going to need guiding,” said Hignett of the current crop at Victoria Park. “If we get the right people in to guide them then we’re going to have an exciting team.

“You have to treat people properly for a start, like getting paid on time, if you do that then players haven’t got a grumble, they can go out and play. On top of that you have to find the right characters.”
