Torquay United’s owner Clarke Osborne is ‘very supportive’ and remains committed to the future of the club, says head coach Gary Owers.

With the Gulls still rooted to the bottom of the National League table and fans worried about what direction they may take if they go down, Owers insists: “I’ve met with Clarke, and he has his eyes on the ball.

“I think he will be saying something in public quite soon, but he is very aware of what’s going on, and he is very supportive.”

It is some time since Swindon-based businessman Osborne addressed United fans directly, but Owers stressed: “He has a plan for the football club that he will see through.”

Despite their on-pitch problems, United have continued to push ahead with the development of a new youth Academy, without the sort of funding help available to Football League clubs from the Premier League-backed Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).
