Port Vale have appointed Lee Nogan and Gary Brabin as part of new manager Neil Aspin’s coaching staff.
Nogan was Aspin’s assistant at Halifax and Gateshead so his arrival at Vale Park is no surprise. The 48 year old former striker has also been manager at Whitby Town following a playing career in which he made more than 100 appearances for Watford and also played for Oxford, Reading and York City.
His exploits include scoring in the 1995 Championship play-off final at Wembley for Reading in their 4-3 defeat to Bolton. He also scored a hat-trick for the Royals in an epic 3-3 draw with Port Vale in April 1995.
Nogan’s hat-trick put the Royals 3-0 by half time at Elm Park but a Vale side containing Aspin rallied to force a draw thanks to goals from Andy Porter, Ian Bogie and Tony Naylor.
Brabin aged 46, is an experienced former manager who led Luton and Cambridge to the Conference play-offs and has also managed Tranmere and Southport. He hasn’t worked with Aspin before but the new Vale boss is pleased to have recruited him.
